For your vehicle’s engine to run, fuel needs to be delivered from the fuel tank to the motor. The fuel pump performs that task dependably every time you have the ignition on. If your car won’t start or it won’t stay running, it’s possible you need a fuel pump repair, and we can do it for you.

What is a fuel pump?
For most vehicles, electric fuel pumps deliver gasoline to the engine where fuel injectors then mist it into the combustion chamber where it’s burned. These fuel pumps are either in the fuel tank along with the fuel filter or installed in the fuel line that supplies the engine. An electric fuel pump delivers constant fuel pressure, of which only a portion is used at the engine and the rest is cycled back through the fuel system’s return line to the tank.
In some modern vehicles with gasoline direct injection (GDI), a mechanical fuel pump increases the pressure before it’s sent into the fuel rail. Similarly, a diesel engine has a high-pressure fuel pump with pressures much higher than average – so much so that it maxes out a normal fuel pressure gauge.
Regardless of which style or combination of styles your vehicle has, it’s possible to have a faulty fuel pump at some point. When the fuel pump fails, the only recourse is to replace it.
Possible fuel pump symptoms
What problems and warning signs can you experience when the fuel pump isn’t working properly? Symptoms can include:
- Check Engine light is illuminated due to a misfire or lean condition.
- Long crank time for the engine to start.
- Periodic stalling as the pump overheats and shuts down.
- Complete fuel pump failure and the engine won’t start at all.
- Decreased power or intermittent performance.
- Occasionally, a whining noise from the pump.
If your vehicle’s fuel pump is exhibiting one or more of these symptoms, have our professionals diagnose it and provide an accurate cost to replace it.
